Urmiberg
Rules for paraglider pilots
The flying area is managed by the flying school touch and go… (paragliding.ch), with the support of the GCRM (Gleitschirmclub Rigi-Mythen – gcrm.ch).
Take-off and landing fees are covered by an annual pass or a day pass. The annual pass costs CHF 20 and entitles the holder to take off and land with hang gliders for the respective calendar year. The day ticket costs CHF 10 and entitles the holder to take off and land on the day in question.

Starting places
Starting point Alp Schwand
- 1220m, 15 minutes walk from the mountain station. Landing site in Goldau or Brunnen.
- Please be considerate of pastures and fences. Fences must not be left down after the start.
- Be careful when flying from windward to leeward!
Timpel starting position
- 1140m, steep south-facing slope at the mountain station. Please be considerate of pastures and fences. Fences must not be left down after the start.
- From the cable car, follow the directions to the launch site via the footpath reserved for paragliders.
- The public footpath through the restaurant may be used when eating or drinking in the restaurant. However, please observe the applicable regulations and disturb the restaurant guests as little as possible.
Landing site Brunnen
The landing site is about 400m south of the Urmiberg valley station. Official landing ban in the Hopfräben nature reserve.
LANDING CIRCUIT
The landing volute is always south of the landing point.
Left-hand volte (yellow) in westerly or southerly winds, right-hand volte (red) in easterly winds.
LANDING AREA
The folding area is south of the red hydrant in the northern corner of the landing area – this area must be used for packing! Please keep noise pollution to a minimum! Switch off radios, no very loud conversations. Try to avoid flying low over Bristenstrasse 29.
Do not use the shade provided by the houses opposite as a recreation area. No cars at the landing site. Also not for loading material. Please also keep the sidewalk clear.

Föhn conditions
The flying area lies at the northern end of Lake Uri and is located in a well-known föhn valley. It is not recommended to fly on the Urmiberg in föhn conditions! Pay particular attention to the wind conditions and föhn index measurements in Altdorf and Bälmeten.
Info about the Urmibergbahn
The Urmiberg aerial cableway is a private cableway, which is mainly used for restaurant guests.
Restaurant guests have priority and must be allowed to go first on request.
The cable car runs every half hour from 9:05 a.m. to 6:05 p.m., every ’05 and ’35. If there are 4 or more people, the cable car also runs in between if possible.
The cable car fares are EXCLUSIVE of take-off and landing fees.
It is not possible to upgrade from a one-way ticket to a day ticket.
The cable car operator only accepts cash, so please make sure you have enough cash with you.
- Maximum of 5 pilots with backpacks (480kg) in the cabin.
- Paragliders must be packed. Backpacks can be hung on the outside, but they must not protrude from the side of the cabin.
- Please use the designated footpath to the starting area.
- The toilets in the restaurant are for restaurant guests only. The starting area is not a toilet either. Please use the toilets at the valley station.
Information for flight schools
- Please inform your students about the local rules regarding the cable car and restaurant.
- Flight schools should contact the restaurant (operator of the cable car) in advance and inform them of the approximate number of participants in order to avoid bottlenecks if several schools arrive at the same time.
