THE CHALLENGE

Kanton Uri offers great walks and fantastic flights, suitable for H+F, XC and acro pilots. This is a chance to explore the most popular (and some less well known) sites, and have a fun with friends as you do so.

The aim is to challenge the hardened Hike and Fly enthusiasts, but also have and fun challenge for the less committed hikers.

The format is simple, with only 4 turnpoints (Haldi, Eggberge, Ruogig and Brusti) which can be visited in any order, however… the twist is that you must also visit the valley floor a number of times between the turnpoints. The exact number differs for the Quick Link and Rip Stop categories.

DETAILS

Event area: A walking/flying tour of Kanton Uri, with turnpoints at Haldi, Eggberge, Ruogig, Brusti

Start, finish and event organisation location:
Restaurant Pizzeria Moosbad da Sergio

Race start: 8:30 AM
Race finish: latest at 5:30 PM

Prerequisites for participation:
– Swiss paragliding licence or IPPI4

“QUICK LINK” Category

The “QuickLink” category is for the hardened Hike and Fly enthusiasts. The 4 turnpoints need to be reached without any use of mechanical transport. No cars, busses, cablecars, rollerskates, bicycles, or any outside help. During the race the pilot must return at least 2 times to the valley floor. This is X-Apls style: You carry everything you need except for food and water, which you can replenish on the way.

The QuickLink Challenge is a simple race to goal. We all start together and the fastest wins.

“RIP STOP” Category

In this category you must visit the 4 turnpoints in any order, and you need to visit the valley floor between each, but you are free to use public transport. This includes cablecars, busses and trains, but does not include any other mechanical transport (eg. taxi, bicycle, etc.). We might just allow rollerskates, but you will need to carry these, together with the boots you fly in, for the entire event.

A bonus of 40 points will be awarded to participants that hike from the valley floor to at least one turnpoint. To secure this, it must be supported by a continuous GPS track.

In the RipStop category, we will also have a side challenge: hidden near the startplaces, or possibly along the route, there will be a few “paragliding mascots”. Extra points will be awarded for taking a selfie with each of them. In total there are 4 mascots, and a bonus will be awarded for having selfies with all of them.

SCORING

This is meant to be a fun event, so scoring will be simple:

All Categories

10 points for each turnpoint. Each turnpoint will have a unique sign, and you must take a picture of this from no further than 50cm away to log this turnpoint (no, you can’t use the zoom feature on your camera!).

You must also send a WhatsApp location to the organisers from a place of your choice, on the valley floor, between each turnpoint. The first of these is the start of the Challenge.

“QuickLink” category

10 points for each turnpoint, plus 200 points for the first to goal, thereafter each contestant to arrive at goal receives 20 points less than the one before.

“RipStop” Category

10 points for each turnpoint, plus 10 points for each selfie with each mascot posted on Instagram, plus 40 points for proof of at least one ascent by foot.

Prizes

The three people with the highest number of points in each category for men and women will receive attractive prizes.
If there are not enough participants registered in a category, the prizes will be raffled among the participants.

Sponsors of the Events are: Kortel Design, High Adventure, touch and go…

Main prize: Kortel Kliff 3 harness + backpack Kompact

Further prizes:
Safety training day at touch and go in Brunnen
CHF 300 High Adventure gift voucher
